WELCOME TO THE VERTEX INVESTIGATOR-INITIATED STUDIES (IIS) PROGRAM
Our Goal
To provide support to independent investigators who are interested in conducting their own clinical (patient-oriented) or non-clinical (laboratory) research.
Funding support may be available for clinical (patient-oriented) research that:
- Examines human health in the areas of Hepatitis C and Cystic Fibrosis
- Does not involve administration of investigational drugs
- Typically has annual funding requirements less than $20,000
Examples include: studies of a disease's natural history, barriers to care, patient surveys, pharmacoeconomics, statistical models using patient data
Compounds and other materials may be available for non-clinical (laboratory) research that:
- Examines Vertex's chemical or biological materials in laboratory settings
Examples include: studies using Vertex compounds for in vitro assays or in vivo models
Our Criteria
Proposals will be evaluated in the following areas:
- Scientific rigor
- Innovation
- Feasibility
- Adherence to ethical principles
- Alignment with Vertex's overall mission
- Resource availability
To be eligible for support, investigators must accept full responsibility for designing, conducting, and monitoring their own studies.
Our Process
To apply:
- Register for a User account.
- Your password will be emailed to you. Return to this site and login.
- Submit your proposal. For clinical research, this is a two-step process involving a preliminary "concept" proposal submission that, if accepted, is followed by a more detailed protocol. Non-clinical applications typically require a single submission. Please be advised that submission of a proposal does not guarantee eventual funding or materials.
Vertex's support of an investigator-initiated study in no way implies any obligation regarding the recommendation or prescribing of products, now or in the future.
